<p>A device of this type is described in Patent Application P 3,841,889.4. In this device, it is possible under unfavourable circumstances that complete thermal destruction of the toxic constituents of the waste gas is not ensured. This disadvantage is to be eliminated by further development of the device. The improved device is characterised in that, in the superstructure (42) of the furnace (4) above the mixture-free part of the surface (84') of the glass melt (84), at least one gas flow baffle body (49) is arranged which extends transversely through the superstructure (42) and substantially covers the free cross-section thereof and which has a number of parallel passage orifices (49') running in the longitudinal direction of the furnace. This makes the waste gas stream free of turbulence and advantageously narrows the residence time spectrum of the waste gas particles, which ensures complete destruction of the toxic waste gas constituents. The device is particularly suitable for converting those waste materials into a glassy form which release or form toxic constituents, above all dioxins and furans, when they are heated. <IMAGE></p> |
