PURPOSE:To increase cycle performance by applying a specific pasty material to a conductive core, drying, then impregnating a solution containing an yttrium salt, and converting the yttrium salt into yttrium hydroxide in an alkaline solution. CONSTITUTION:An active material mainly comprising cadmium oxide powder, a binder, and a solvent are kneaded to form a pasty material, then the pasty material is applied to a conductive core such as a perforated steel plate, dried, then a solution containing an yttrium salt is impregnated therein. The yttrium salt is converted into yttrium hydroxide in an alkaline solution and the yttrium hydroxide is uniformly distributed in the pores in a cadmium negative electrode. Since the yttrium compound exists on the surface of the porous cadmium active material which contributes to charge-discharge reaction, the utilization of the cadmium active material is increased and large effect on cycle performance is obtained. A paste type cadmium negative electrode with excellent cycle performance can be obtained. |
