The proposal is for a brake pressure regulating system for brake installations with anti-lock and starting slip control in which there is at least one expansion chamber (29) with a closing device (31) fitted therein between the wheel brake cylinders (9, 10) and the return pump (16). This additional closing device (31) fitted on the expansion chamber (29) obviates the need for a separate brake pressure regulating valve. In addition, a valve seat (32) at the outflow aperture (29b) from the expansion chamber (29) which is smaller in relation to the area of the piston (30) in the expansion chamber (29) results in a steeper closing force gradient, since even small pressure differences result in large closing force differences, so that the opening and closing pressures are close together.
