PURPOSE:To suppress the cracking of a formed article by forming a compound of inorganic powder mixed with a thermally coagulable polysaccharide, heating the formed article to coagulate the thermally coagulable polysaccharide and drying the product. CONSTITUTION:Inorganic powder such as silica or activated carbon is compounded with 1-30wt.% of a binder composed of a thermally coagulable polysaccharide such as beta-1,3-glucan and, as necessary, a cellulose ether such as methyl cellulose as the 2nd assistant. A proper amount of water is added to the mixture and the obtained compound is formed in the form of a plate, honeycomb structure, etc. The formed article is heated at 70-150 deg.C for 0.5-3hr in the presence of water to coagulate the thermally coagulable polysaccharide and then dried by conventional method to obtain a formed inorganic powder. As necessary, the formed powder is sintered to obtain the objective product. |
