An apparatus for densifying expanded plastics material or other plastics products comprises a chamber (10) having a wall (16) which is cast from metal and incorporates an e.g. electrical heating element (20) cast therein, and an outlet in the bottom of the chamber through which molten plastics material flows under gravity. The wall (16) is coated with a low friction polymeric material.
