A cage for cylindrical thrust bearing rollers 3, is shaped from an annular flat sheet metal disc from which pockets to receive the rollers 3 are punched with the metal between pockets shaped to portions 6 and 7 parallel to the pitch plane 5 of the rollers providing roller guide surfaces 9 and which are joined by narrower portions 8 out of contact with the rollers 3. The cage is provided with axially directed rims 10 at inner and outer peripheries which confine the rollers within the pockets. In alternative embodiments, the outer rim may be flanged inwardly, Fig. 4, to hold a ring of low friction material or folded over inwardly to provide a reinforced double thickness rim. The outer rim, Fig. 6, may also be similarly reinforced by folding over outwardly with the inner rim shaped to channel section or, alternatively, the inner rim may be unmodified and the outer rim flanged to channel section. |
