Method of forming synthetic foams, characterised in that the foam is cooled to a temperature such that the substance of the cell walls becomes brittle and the foam component thus cooled is stamped with a punch which has the desired shape; so that the walls of the cells situated in the volume occupied by the punch are broken and that, when the punch is withdrawn, it leaves in the foam an imprint corresponding exactly to its shape.
