PURPOSE:To enable to compress longitudinally and transversally manuscript only, when manual characters and print letters are mixed on the same line, by providing such as a specific format memory, comparator and multiplexer. CONSTITUTION:An optical character reader storing one line of character pattern in a buffer memory 16 through two dimension scanning, is provided with a format memory 23 storing in advance the address of manual writing fields and letter print filed changing points X0-X3 toward X axis, and a comparator 21 generating an output every time the content of an X address counter 17 is coincident with the content of X address counter 17 are provided. Further, the Y address counter is constituted with a manual character address counter 20, a letter print address counter 19, and a multiplexer 18 switching them. The switching control of the multiplexer 18 is made by using an output of a flip-flop inverted by the output of said comparator 21. |
