PURPOSE:To make safe and inexpensive potentiometric measurement by forming the electrode having an ion selective membrane (ISM) consisting of a thin layer contg. an ion selective material/a polymer layer/a thin layer contg. the ion selective material. CONSTITUTION:The electrode is formed by laminating a conductive metallic layer (preferably a metallic layer consisting of silver), a halide layer (formed by a method of subjecting the coated metallic layer to an oxidation-halogenation treatment with a halide-contg. oxidizing agent and a combination of a silver layer/silver chloride layer is preferable.), a halogen-contg. electrolyte layer, a thin layer of a hydrophobic binder contg. the ion selective material (there is polyvinyl chloride as a polymer binder), a polymer layer (preferably a phdrophilic polymer. There is gelatin as the hydrophilic polymer binder), and the thin layer of the hydrophobic binder contg. the ion selective material in this order on an insulating base (e.g.: sheet-like polycarbonate of disphenol A). The amt. of the expensive and highly toxic ion selective material used can be decreased in this way. |
