The electrical lighting unit has a main housing (9) that is bowl shaped and is enclosed by a cover (1) that is produced of an opaque plastic material. The inside of the cover supports a latch mechanism that secures the unit to the housing when a knob is turned through an angle. The latch mechanism has a link (5) fixed to the knob (8). At each end of the link is a latch plate (4,6) that is supported by a bolt (19,20) passing through a slot. The centre link is coupled to the latch plates by pins (28,29). Rotation of the knob causes the edge of the plates (11) to engage with the housing lip (12). ADVANTAGE - Simple latching operation to secure cover in position.
