A process for preparing 3-(C1-C12 alkylthio) C3-C10 aldehydes by reacting a C1-C12 alkyl mercaptan with an alpha , beta -unsaturated aliphatic aldehyde having from 3 to 10 carbon atoms in the presence of a weakly basic exchange resin having polyamine functionality and being in the free base form, is disclosed herein.
