<p>The active carbon is produced by microwave-induced pyrolysis of a carbonaceous material in an atmosphere containing no more than 5 % oxygen so as to inhibit flame generation. The resulting product is treated with an acid (so as to wash out sulphur or metal values), and then activated by treatment with superheated steam and/or carbon dioxide at an elevated temperature.</p> |
