PURPOSE:To perform excellent control of engagement and disengagement by a method wherein a degree at which a control rule for engagement and disengagement of a lockup clutch is satisfied is determined by effecting fuzzy computation of a degree, at which a subrule containing a subrule paying consideration to a road gradient is satisfied, according to a logic formula. CONSTITUTION:A microcomputer 4 determines a degree, at which a control rule available when engagement and disengagement of a lockup clutch 2A of an automatic transmission 1 are effected is satisfied, by effecting fuzzy computation of a degree, at which a plurality of subrules containing a subrule paying consideration to a road gradient is satisfied, according to a predetermined logic formula. This constitution performs consideration of the road gradient with a well balance in relation between the road gradient and various running states, end effects excellent engagement and disengagement of the lockup clutch. |
