The closing device for a hinged door or window, consists of an L-shaped arm (5,6) which is pivoted at one end at a fixed point (9). The other end of the arm (6) is fitted with a roller (8) which engages a slot (7) in the door or window frame (3) which is mounted on hinges (33). A tension spring (16) acts on a curved lever (13) which is attached to the end (5) of the L-shaped arms so that a closing force is applied to the door (3). The door (3) can be swung through 180 deg. to the open position. In this position the curved lever (13) is swung through 90 deg. so that its end (14) abuts against the stop (15). The line of action of the spring (16) is then moved so close to the pivot (9) that the applied torque is insufficient to close the door (3) against the force of the damping device (15).
