A one piece wheel rim for a pneumatic tyre in which one tyre retaining flange has a reduced height portion (9) having a length of .25 to .5 times the bead seat circumference and the reduced height being such that the flange height, measured from the heel point (HP) is in the range of 0.15 to 0.6 times the height of the remainder of the flange to allow tyre fitting removal The assembly provides a wheel rim having much increased brake space inside the wheel rim because it is not ncessary to have the conventional tyre fitting well and a fitting well of very much reduced, or indeed in some cases zero depth, may be used.
