A method of making conveyor belting comprising a carcase of textile material bonded with elastomeric material and having secured on at least one face thereof an outer or conveying surface formed from cross-linked or vulcanised polyethylene comprises applying vulcanised or vulcanisable polyethylene to one face of the carcase in the form of a coating and bonding it thereto either by an adhesive or by vulcanisation during the consolidation of the carcase. Specified textile materials are cotton duck, rayon, polyethylene terephthalate, glass-fibre or regenerated cellulose. The carcase may comprise layers of textile material bonded together by adhesive e.g. vulcanised polyethylene, a composition of polyvinyl chloride with a butadiene-acrylonitrile copolymer and optionally a phenolic resin. Specified elastomeric materials are natural rubber, gutta penha, styrene-butadiene rubber, butyl rubber, halogenated butyl rubber, polyisoprene, ethylene-propylene copolymers, polybutadiene, polychloroprene, silicone rubber, vinylidene fluoride-perfluoropropylene copolymer, polyvinyl chloride and mixtures thereof. The other outer surface is preferably formed from an oil-resistant polymer e.g. polychloroprene or a butadiene-acrylonitrile polymer. |
