An earth moving or agricultural machine (4) has a receiver (3) that responds to a guide beam in the form of a laser output from a transmitter. The laser beam provides aninput to the microcomputer controller (MC) of the system. The system has a series of control signal inputs (8) that define reference conditions for the drive actuators (6) of the machine. The controller sets the position of such devices as hydraulic servo valves (5). The microcomputer responds to stored programme data to set the conditions for oeprators operations of the drive and provides inhibition for certain directions of motion.
