In Examples 6 and 7, a gaseous mixture of 5% propylene, 6% ammonia, 55% air and 34% steam was reacted at 410 DEG C. or 480 DEG C. to yield acrolein and acrylonitrile in the presence of oxidation catalysts of tin and antimony oxides which have been made by dispersing precursrs therefor in a gas stream which is heated to cause the precursors to react to form the catalysts which then undergo heat treatment in the hot gas prior to collection.ALSO:Oxidation catalysts of tin and antimony oxides are made by dispersing precursors therefor in a gas stream which is heated to cause the precursors to react to form the catalysts which then undergo heat treatment in the hot gas prior to collection. Precursors is defined as a substance or substances (a) capable of reacting in or with the hot gas to yield the catalyst and (b) which can be fed into the gas stream as a gas or vapour or as an atomised liquid or solution. Examples describe the use of Sn Cl4 and Sb Cl5 in air or ethanol which undergo thermal decomposition to yield SnO2 and Sb2O4. |
