METHOD FOR PREPARING OF POLYMER HYDROGEL

The prepared product helps to increase the water-retaining capacity of soils. The method involves a limited number of operations while preserving the high water-absorbing characteristics of the polymer-based hydrogel. It involves carrying out an alkaline hydrolysis of an acrylonitrile homo- or co-polymer in a medium of saturated C1-C4 aliphatic alcohol. The polymer/ base/water ratio ranges between 1 : 0.8 : 0.4 and 1 : 1.3 : 2.0. The suspension from the process is filtered and the resulting precipitate washed successively with ethanol and ethanol / acetic acid mixture, followed by drying at 70-100 degrees C.
