Cryopreservation of larvae of the phylum Mollusca (such as mussels and oysters) at, or beyond, the trocophore stage allows the larvae to be available, for example for bioassays and hatcheries, outside the breeding season. Cryopreservation is in an aqueous medium, which may contain sugars and/or a cryoprotectant such as DMSO and/or glycerol, and may be in contact with cholesterol. |
