<p>A variable occlusion device (10) includes a device housing (12) having one or more loops of flexible tubing (30). A rotor (14) includes a number of carriage passageways each with an occluding member carriage and occluding member assembly movably mounted therein. The carriage and occluding member assemblies move between an extended position and a retracted position. The peristaltic device (10) also includes a system for providing an operating fluid from a remote fluid supply (18) under a desired pressure to the carriage passageways of the rotor (14). The operating fluid controls both the occluding force exerted by the occluding members upon the tubing (30) and the position of the occluding members. Operating fluid containment bags are positioned within each carriage passageway for containing the operating fluid, so that the operating fluid does not directly contact either the fluid passage walls or the carriage member. The fluid pressure is communicated to the carriage passageways through a rotary union (46) with no rotating seals apart from a sealing bearing structure.</p> |
