The invention relates to apparatus (1) and methods for treating a gas stream, for example to remove gas contaminants therefrom, comprising a tubular housing (A) having in series therein a destabiliser (B), an ioniser (C) and a high electric energy field applicator (D) whereby on passage through the housing (A) relatively complex molecular gaseous elements are progressively dissociated into ions or atoms so that on emerging from applicator (F) thery recombine into relatively harmless, relatively simple molecules. |
