PURPOSE:To obtain an information reproducing signal with a high modulation degree by recording optical information in such a manner that cavities are formed in the boundary part between a dyestuff-contg. layer of the part irradiated with a laser beam and a reflecting layer. CONSTITUTION:This information recording medium is provided with the dyestuff-contg. layer contg. the dyestuff with which the recording and reproducing of the information by the laser beam is possible on a disk-shaped substrate and the reflecting layer in this dyestuff-contg. layer. Such information recording medium is irradiated with the laser beam in such a manner that the cavities are formed in the boundary part between the dyestuff-contg. layer of the part irradiated with the laser beam and the reflecting layer at the time of recording the optical information on the recording medium. The recording of the optical information is preferably executed to form the cavities in such a manner that the max. size of the cavities in the thickness direction of the information recording medium attains 2 to 80%, more particularly 10 to 60% of the layer thickness of the dyestuff-contg. layer.
