In a thermal protective switch in which the bimetal strip 2, Fig. 1, co-operates directly (as at 2a, 9a) with an operating member such as a push-button 9, the strip 2 is mounted on a leaf spring contact carrier 3 and arranged so that the switching movement is perpendicular to the thermal deflection. On heating by coil 7 the strip 2 deflects into a slot 12, Fig. 2, to release to contacts 4, 5 under the action of the spring 3. The contacts are re-closed by cooperating cam faces 2b, 9b when the pushbutton 9 is depressed against spring 11 on guide rod 10. Thermal adjustment may be obtained by a screw 13 engaging the base 3a of the spring carrier 3. In modifications the projection 9a on the push-button 9 may be a metal plate or replaced by an adjustable screw (15), Fig. 3 (not shown) projecting across the slot 12 and providing temperature adjustment. |
