A roller skate has a brake (26,42) utilizes a generally flat rectangular road surface engaging base (50) which pivots about the rear wheel (15) through an arc of approximately twelve degrees to achieve full facial engagement with the road surface to achieve safer, more controlled braking. The brake pad (42) is provided with an internal plate (84) which provides an audible and vibrating wear indicator to alert the skater to replace the brake pad. The pad (42) has an upright, arcuate protuberance (52) and a transverse rib (64) which are mateably received within an arcuate cross section socket (44) and a slot (48) adjacent the socket to closely restrain and confine the brake pad within a brake pad housing (26) when the brake pad is attached to the housing.
|
