The invention relates to a safety steering device for a motor vehicle, in which only the driver can change the position of the wheels by turning the steering wheel. It consists of a steering box 1 comprising a worm screw gearing 2 which comprises, at one end, a gearwheel 10 in contact with the gearing 4 and, at the other end, a lug 11 for fastening the steering column. The gearing 4 is equipped with a pulley which, each time the wheel is turned, a flexible strip 6 winds up pressing a spring 7 to facilitate the return of the wheel. The worm 2 is in contact with the gearing 3 to allow the movement of the rack spindle 5 and which at the same time does not allow the opposite movement.
