A process for increasing the throughput capacity of a sinter cooler comprises comminuting the hot sinter in two stages, and screening after each comminution, at least part of the sinter from the first comminution stage being further reduced in size in the second comminution stage, and screening off a particle size fraction which is to be returned to the sintering process at a location between the first comminution stage and the cooler. The sinter retained by the screen after the first comminution stage may be charged to the second comminution stage, and the fraction passed by the screen of the first comminution stage and the material discharged by the second comminution stage are jointly screened, the material retained by this second screen being passed to the cooler, and the material passing this screen returned to the sinter plant. The return material may alternatively be separated from the material which has passed the screen associated with the first comminution stage by an intermediate screen which immediately succeeds the screen associated with the first comminution stage. A particle size fraction to be used to cover the grate of the sintering machine may be separated before or after the cooler.</p> |
