The two-row roller bearing for a vehicle wheel bearing has a one-piece outer ring (1). Each outer bearing surface (4) has a hardened section (5), whose depth varies, across its length, from approximately 15 per cent of the roller (2) dia. at its inner end (7) to 10% at its outer end (5'). A funnel-shaped ring (6) of unhardened metal remains between the two hardened bearing surfaces. ADVANTAGE - The unhardened zone is able to dissipate high axial forces.
