A deferred action type cell, which is contained in a housing 10 that is divided into an electrolyte compartment 14 and a cell compartment 15 by a bulkhead 16, which includes a frangible part 25, is activated by a projectile such as a metal ball 31, which is initially housed in a bore 30 at the opposite end of the cell compartment from the bulkhead, and which is projected along passage 31 through the cell against the frangible part 25 by the force of the explosion of a detonator 33, the projectile passing completely through into the reservoir. The detonator is activated by striking cap 34 with a firing pin. As shown, on breaking part 25 which may be a glass diaphragm, electrolyte flows through bore 21 and apertures 22 into the stack of cells 18 which are connected in series. |
