The invention concerns the microbiological method of producing 4'-deoxy-13(S)-dihydro-4'-idarubicin of formula II, where, in aerobic conditions and in an aqueous culture medium containing a source of carbon, nitrogen and inorganic salts, a mutant of the family Streptomyces peucetius, strain M 87 F.I. (DSM 2444) is cultivated in the presence of 4'-deoxy-4'-iododoxorubicin of formula I, in the form of hydrochloride, and the resulting 4'-deoxy-13(S)-dihydro-4'-iododoxorubicin of formula II is isolated in the form of hydrochloride.
