Optical glass fibre drawing appts. has preform feed device which advances a preform by means of rotation of a nut (8) on a stationary non-rotating spindle (6). Pref. the preform (1) is held by a chuck (3) which is fixed to a feed slide (5) in which the spindle nut (8) is rotatably mounted. ADVANTAGE - Appts. operates with min. vibration.
