PURPOSE: To prevent address from being designated to a memory position which is not included within an address designation range by detecting the connector configuration of a slot into which a board is inserted, and selectively changing the operation of an extended circuit based on the detected output. CONSTITUTION: When a specified contact is connected in a state where the board connector 12 of an extended function board 10 is engaged with the system connector 32 of a host system 30, a converter circuit 24 outputs a detecting signal and the extended function is operated. In the meantime, unless the specified contact is connected, a local processor 16 extracts whole memory addresses reqrested by a command from a system 30 and inspects whether the limit of address designation is exceeded or not. Then, the command is rejected only when the address exceeds the limit of the slot. Thus, the address is prevented from being designated to the memory position which is not included within the address designation range.
