Date Oct. 22, 1987.Method and apparatus for drying paper webs continuously manufactured in paper machines, by the use of process steam produced by a two-substance compression heat pump with a solution-circuit. A portion of the thermal energy needed for the drying process is obtained from process steam produced by the heat pump from the waste heat contained in the moist exhaust air of the paper machine, and another portion from preheated ambient air, which is then used for drying the paper web. The ambient air is preheated by using it to cool the rich solution of the heat pump.
