A machanical interlock system is built into a switching unit to ensure that a specific sequence of operations can take place. The unit has a base(3) that is formed with a series of 'T'shaped channels(9) that provide guidance for contact elements(37-40) that are therefore constrained to movement in x and y directions. The contact elements being moved can engage with contact tracks(64) to generate outputs. A specific sequence of actions is ensured by the use of interlck elements(25,26) to certain locations. ADVANTAGE - Simplifies interlocked operation of elements.
