Groove contour on roller of a reducing or roughing rolling mill with a three-roller structure has the novelty of a base roller contour (11) which is defined by the curve of a circle (9) whose centre (M1) lies on a line (10) running at right angles to the centre of the groove (KM). The radius (R) of the circle is greater than the clear distance (L) between the caliber base of the rollers (1,2,3) and the centre of the caliber (KM). The roller contours of the border regions (12) of two neighbouring rollers are defined by a common curve of a circle (13) whose centre (M2) lies on a line (14) running at right angles to the rotational axis of the third roller (4,5,6) and passes r through the centre of the caliber (KM). The transition between the base roller contour (11) and the border region of the roller contour (12) remains uniform. USE/ADVANTAGE - Used for rolling e.g. pipes, the strain and shape change relationship of the rolled workpiece in the three roller stand are comparable thereby avoiding deformation on the inside contour of the pipe.
