Disengagement of a motor vehicle clutch is effected by operation of a variable-ratio linkwork system comprising rods 40, 50 pivoted upon a triangularly-shaped lever 46 so arranged that initial movement in the clutch-disengaging direction requires a relatively large force, which decreases to a relatively small force as disengagement is completed. A spring 68 biases the system in the clutch-engaged diection, and a convex-headed nut 56 threaded on the rod 50 permits adjustment of the system to compensate for wear. As shown, a pedal 26 is connected to the rod 40, but in a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the rod 40 is connected to an hydraulic slave unit. |
