Removing carbon di:sulphide from effluent gas streams - by washing with absorption liq. comprising soln. of 1-6 carbon alkanolamine or n-alkyl alkanolamine

A procedure for removing CS2 from effluent gas mixts. comprises contacting the gas mixt. with an absorption liq. consisting of a soln. of a 1-6 C alkanolamine or an N-(1-4 C alkyl) -(1-6 C)-alkanolamine in an organic solvent. The alkanolamine is pref. ethanolamine, methylaminoethanol or ethylaminoethanol and the solvent is e.g. 1-8 C alkanols, glycol ethers or polyalkyleneglycols. The absorption liq. may also contain a supplementary base. Pref. the ratio solvent:amine is not less than 1:1. USE/ADVANTAGE - The absorption liq. is easily available, gives high degrees of absorption of CS2, is capable of treating gas mixts. contg. high concns. of CS2, and gives waste prods. which can easily be disposed of. The process is relatively cheap to run and is not prone to operational problems.
