Adding wood powder to dewatered sewage sludge - produces more effective ground conditioner

Dewatered sewage sludge is prepd. for tipping or for use in agricultural ground improvement by using powdered wood as additive, e.g. as produced in large amts. by wood grinding machines grain size should be 200 microns or less. Amt. of additive is related to dry substance content of sludge; with this value rising from 20% to 30% the ratio of sludge to wood powder will change from 100:15 to 100:10. ADVANTAGE - Crumb structure is improved as compared with inorganic additives, absence of pH change assists bacterial breakdown, and smells are reduced.
