PRODUCTION METHOD OF COMPOSITE MATERIAL

PURPOSE: To achieve continuous manufacture of prepregs with a dual belt pressing machine while remaining stable at room temperature by impregnating a porous material with a bisphenol-based novolac and a particular amount of imidazole to a total binder. CONSTITUTION: In a method for continuous production of composite materials based on epoxy resin laminates in a heated dual belt pressing machine, a laminate is used which is produced by impregnating a porous material with a binder consisting essentially of an epoxy resin, a bisphenol novolac and 0.4 to 2.0 wt.% imidazole based on the total binder. The hardening rate is remarkably increased and the storage stability is not influenced substantially. Prepregs can be stored up to 3 months without quality loss occurring due to a partial continued hardening of the binder. The finished composite materials show no undesired resin residues in drill holes. The adhesion of the metal layers at the drill hole walls provides perfectly satisfactory.
