1890055 THERMOOXIDATIVE STABILIZATION OF POLYOLEFINS WITH A TRI-SUBSTITUTED-TRIAZINE UV LIGHT STABILIZER AND A PHOSPHOROUS ACID ESTER Only two symmetrical stabilizers in a polyolefin or copolymer thereof provide thermooxidative or antioxidative stability. One is a phosphite, namely a triaryl phosphite or a pentaerythritol phosphite, symmetrical about the P and C atoms respectively, present in a trace amount, less than 0.1 phr; the other is a tri-substituted triazine derivative ("PIP-T") in which the 2-, 4- and 6-positions of the triazine ring are substituted with a polysubstituted piperazin2-one, piperazine, or piperidine. No other stabilizer such as a hindered phenol antioxidant, is required. Articles thermoformed from the stabilized poly (alpha-olefin) or copolymer thereof may be used under the hood or the dash of a vehicle, and, in containers for packaging goods, all of which articles are subject to thermooxidative degradation even if they are not subject to ultraviolet light degradation.
