PURPOSE:To simply and surely replenish consumed phosphoric acid by connecting a sealed phosphoric acid storage tank containing gas and phosphoric acid to a fuel cell, heating the tank, inflating the gas to pressurize phosphoric acid, and feeding phosphoric acid to the cell. CONSTITUTION:A sealed phosphoric acid storage tank 4 connected to a matrix 2 having an electrolyte through a feed pipe 3 is installed at the outside of a fuel cell 1. The tank 4 contains inert gas such as nitrogen not causing the transformation of gas and stored phosphoric acid in addition to the stored phosphoric acid. Phosphoric acid is replenished by heating the tank 4. When the tank 4 is heated and the gas is inflated, the inflated gas applies pressure to phosphoric acid because the tank 4 is sealed. The pressurized phosphoric acid is moved toward the matrix 2 through the feed pipe 3 and fed into the fuel cell 1, thus lacking phosphoric acid 5 is replenished. |
