<p>PURPOSE:To improve the steering holding characteristics on a rough road by equipping an electrically controlled power steering device with a rough road detection means, and increasing the output torque of a motor for actuating a steering system upon detection of the rough road. CONSTITUTION:An electrically controlled power steering device is equipped with a power steering controller 13, and drives a power steering actuator 16, depending upon a torque signal from a torque sensor 14 installed on a steering wheel input shaft, thereby assisting output torque for a steering wheel output shaft. In this case, a rough road judgement means 1 is provided for making judgement about a rough road on the basis of an output signal from a height sensor 11 for each wheel via the detection of a height change during travel on the rough road. Upon judgement of the existence of the rough road, output torque assist characteristics in the power steering controller 13 are changed to increase an assist amount. According to the aforesaid construction, irregular handle steering on a rough road is eliminated and steering performance is thereby enhanced.</p> |
