PURPOSE: To accelerate adhesion of a protective coating film without giving adverse influences on sensitometric characteristics of an imaging element by forming a polymer adhesion accelerating layer between the protective coating layer and an imaging layer. CONSTITUTION: This heat treatment type imaging element contains a heat treatment type hydrophobic imaging layer and a protective coating layer thereon comprising poly(silicic acid) and hydrophilic monomers or polymers. A polymer adhesion accelerating layer is formed between the protective coating layer and the imaging layer. As for the polymer adhesion accelerating layer, a single material of a terpolymer comprising 2-propenenitrile, 1,1-dichloroethene and propenoic acid, or a terpolymer comprising 2-propenoic acid methylester, 1,1- dichloroethene and itaconic acid, or a combination of them is used. Thereby, adhesion between the hydrophobic imaging layer and the protective coating layer can be accelerated without giving adverse influences on the sensitometric characteristics of the imaging element.
