A multistory parking garage (11) has an elevator (42) constrained to move vertically within a central core to reach a plurality of vertically stacked parking cells (19, 21, 24, 26). A vehicle transport carriage (51) mounted on the elevator (42) rolls the vehicle from the elevator (42) into an empty parking cell and returns to the elevator (42) or rolls a vehicle from the parking cell onto the elevator (42). The carriage (51) includes resilient members (52) for engaging and disengaging the underside of the vehicle without damage thereto. |
