PURPOSE:To provide the subject composition allowing Bifidobacterium bacteria to selectively multiply for maintaining the gutflora of a main in a good Bifidobacterium-dominant state by containing an oligo saccharide prepared by treating raffinose, stachyose or a material containing the raffinose or stachyose with a specific enzyme in the presence of sucrose. CONSTITUTION:Raffinose, stachyose or a material containing the raffinose or the stachyose is treated with fructosyl transferase to provide the objective composition containing an oligosaccharide comprising fructose combined with 1-3 molecules of the raffinose or stachyose as an active ingredient. The treatment is preferably carried out under conditions comprising a sucrose concentration of 0.5-5%, a raffinose or stachyose concentration 1-20 times larger than that of the sucrose, a reaction pH of 4.0-7.0 and a reaction temperature of 25-65 deg.C. |
