Process and catalyst for dehalogenating alpha-halogenated carboxylic acids

Process for dehalogenating alpha-halogenated carboxylic acids using hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst based on a precious metal of group VIII and sulphur or sulphur compounds; it also relates to a novel catalyst based on a solid sulphur phase and precious metal. The invention is particularly useful for removing the dichloroacetic acid present in monochloroacetic acid.
