An integrated apparatus (7) for anti-lock braking (ABS)/traction control (TC) for a vehicle having a fluid activated brake (14) for a wheel (12) comprising a controller (10) cognizant of the condition of the wheel (12) for signaling to an ABS or TC mode; a master cylinder (16) for delivering pressurized fluid to the wheel brake (14); an actuator (40) with a longitudinal bore (44), the bore having a stop (46), and being fluidly connected (50) with the master cylinder (16) and the wheel brake (14); a first normally open solenoid valve (18) for isolating the master cylinder from the wheel brake (14) when the controller (10) signals an ABS mode; a hollow primary piston (54) slidably sealably mounted within the longitudinal bore (44) and biased towards the stop (46), the interior of said primary piston (54) being fluidly connected with the exterior of the primary piston (54); a secondary piston (60) slidably sealably mounted within the primary piston (54) and movable toward the fluid connection (50) to pressurize the wheel brake (14) and movable in an opposite direction to relieve the wheel brake (14), the secondary piston (60) having an extreme position with respect to the primary piston (54) wherein the pistons move in unison; and reversible means (70,76,82-86,80) for moving the secondary piston (60) in response to a signal from the controller (10).
