PURPOSE:To improve corrosion resisting property and to obtain the title electric double layer capacitor whose characteristics can be improved by a method wherein a metal case, consisting of tantalum or its alloy, is provided on the above-mentioned capacitor. CONSTITUTION:In an electric double layer capacitor, in which an element formed by separating a polarizable electrode 1 using a separator, is housed in a metal case 3 and it is airtightly sealed by putting on a metal cover 4, the metal case 3 made of tantalum or its alloy is provided. For example, an electrolyte such as an organic solvent and the like is impregnated into the polarizable electrode 1 which is obtained by having the mixture of activated charcoal, conductive carbon black, etc., and a binder formed into a sheet. The element, which is obtained by separating the above-mentioned polarizable electrode 1 using a separator 2 consisting of the porous material such as glass fibers and the like, is housed in a metal case consisting of a tantalum or stainless tantalum clad. Then, a metal cover 4 is put on the metal case 3, end the metal case 3 is airtightly sealed by caulking the edge part through the intermediary of the hole-sealing material 5 such as polypropylene and the like. |
