A gas generator for the inflatable protection bag for motor cars, which is activated in case of collisions, has a light metal casing which encloses a propellant laden reaction chamber joined via carrier gas openings to an expansion and filter chamber. Near the inflow edges of these openings the casing has a protective ring, made of thermally and mechanically resistant material(steel) which prevents burn-up or erosion. ADVANTAGE - This helps to minimize the variation in the start temp. of the granules or tablets of the propulsion charge and guarantees a more uniform gas supply of the generator.
