To achieve a particularly small space requirement to the side of the door leaf, a transmission for transmitting power between the output shaft of a drive motor and a shaft for moving and/or holding the door leaf, in particular the winding shaft for a rolling shutter door or the torsion spring shaft for a vertical shutter door, has, between the transmission input shaft and the transmission output shaft, each of which has a gear wheel, a plurality of intermediate shafts, each of which has a pair of gear wheels of different diameters fixed in terms of rotation relative to one another, such that, as seen from the transmission input shaft, one gear wheel of smaller diameter is in each case connected to one gear wheel of larger diameter of the next shaft in the gear train via an endless driving element, in the form of a chain or belt, wrapped around these two gear wheels.
